Sustainability: the need of the hour!

Sustainability: the need of the hour!

In recent years, there has been a growing concern about the impact of the fashion industry on the environment and on the people who make our clothes. Fast fashion, in particular, has been criticised for its harmful effects on both the environment and the workers in the industry. As a clothing brand, we at Seraya are committed to promoting sustainability and ethical practices in the fashion industry.

One of the ways we do this is by partnering with local artisans in Rajasthan who practise the ancient art of hand block printing. We believe that supporting traditional crafts like hand block printing not only helps preserve our cultural heritage but also promotes sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the fashion industry.

The impact of fast fashion on the environment cannot be overlooked. The overproduction of clothes contributes to pollution, waste, and environmental degradation. At Seraya, we have a made-to-order policy to minimise waste.

In addition, we work closely with local artisans in Rajasthan to ensure that they are paid fair wages for their work. Hand block printing is a labour-intensive process that requires skill and expertise, and we believe that the artisans who create our clothes should be fairly compensated for their work.

By partnering with local artisans, we also help support the local economy and promote sustainable development in the region. Many of the artisans we work with come from marginalised communities and face significant challenges earning a livelihood. By providing them with fair wages and stable employment, we help uplift their communities and promote economic empowerment. But our commitments do no simply end with the artisans, every step of the process includes people we care about, be it the karigars who have been given a chance practise their trades for a fair living finally or the tailors who have been given better conditions, equipments, fair working hours and wages. Seraya is a collective that looks after the people who made it what it is, we cannot imagine our growth without the building blocks of the organisation.

At Seraya, we are committed to promoting sustainability, ethical practices, and fair wages for all. We believe that fashion can and should be a force for good in the world, and we are proud to partner with local artisans in Rajasthan to create beautiful, sustainable, and ethically made clothing.
